Coaches, and parents, you deserve so much credit for the work you do with athletes and young people that you shouldn’t have to feel like you have to do it all! The idea of teaching the Mental Game Skills in your sport, while critical to success, has rarely been offered to you to help you learn how to provide it. That’s why it is exciting to know that now in New Mexico, Mark Walch MGCP, is available to help you learn the fundamentals of Mental Game Skills using the newest and most effective Sports Psychology tools available.
Mark has been certified by Peak Performance Sports in how to use their proven methods and technologies to give athletes the Performance Edge in competition. Mark has been a coach in several sports and always knew there was more to the success of an athlete than the physical skills they learned. He used to often ask: “Why did he do so well in practice yesterday, and now fold in the game?” “What is different about this game than the last one for my athlete?” “Why does she always seem to get injured right before the big game or match?”
All these questions were answered with sayings such as: “She’s a head case! She can’t win the big one. He has been a choker since high school”. Or, from a more concerned place the reactions are: Why can’t he make a free throw in crunch time? Why does she lose focus in the State meet? Why does he always play so poorly against that guy?
These answers would only lead me to a dead end, and that was: IT IS ALL IN HER HEAD!
Have you been there? Now what do you do? When I was coaching, I knew it was a mental problem, but I was not trained to work as a Mental Game Coach at that time, so I just tried to use dime store psychology methods or some method that a coach had used with me when I was in that spot. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn’t. Sometimes it made it the situation worse and other times I did not want to even begin to go there with the athlete!
If any of this sounds familiar or you recognize that you shouldn’t have to know all things for all athletes, including how to deal with their Mental Game, then I can help. Through my certification with Dr. Cohn, I have learned how to efficiently and effectively help athletes gain control of their Mental Game and begin to perform in a consistent manner in competition. The results are usually seen very quickly and the athlete feels confident instead of scared. They feel excited about the competition instead of dreading it. They take unforeseen events on game day and turn them into empowering opportunities.
You don’t need to know it all! I have spent my life in athletics and working with athletes and coaches. I have been an athlete and coach and know the experiences from both sides.
